Hermitage of La Antigua
La Antigua is considered the 'cathedral' of Basque chapels and hermitages.
Surrounded in legends, mysteries and Basque mythology, it is one of those places wrapped in a magical aura. It is thought to have been built over a 12th-century fort, although the earliest records of the church date from 1366. Visitors will be in for quite a surprise once they walk in the door. The extraordinary timberwork oak ceiling draws your eyes upwards creating an open airy feeling. With its unparalleled beauty, La Antigua is the quintessential wooden 'cathedral'.
