Getaria

For centuries this seafaring town was a whaling port.

Getaria is associated with a number of illustrious names and celebrities: Cristóbal Balenciaga, the father of couture fashion; Juan Sebastián Elkano, the first person to circumnavigate the globe; and Pepita Embil, celebrated performer of zarzuela and mother of the legendary tenor Plácido Domingo. For centuries this seafaring town was a whaling port. Today it is the centre of Txokolí wine production, excellent produce and grilled fish. Getaria is nestled between beautiful beaches, Txakolí vineyards and a mouse-shaped hill known as the ‘Ratón de Getaria'.
