Church of La Asunción (the Assumption), Hondarribia
Erected on the remains of the former town walls, the church stands in the medieval centre of Hondarribia, one of the towns with greatest tourist appeal in Gipuzkoa.
It was built in the Gothic style with Renaissance and Baroque features added later. It contains a series of elements ranging from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The sacristy was built on the medieval wall in the first half of the seventeenth century. The Baroque eighteenth-century bell tower is the work of Francisco de Ibero and was erected atop a former tower house.
