Church of San Vicente, Donostia-san Sebastian

Situated in the city’s old quarter, the church of San Vicente is thought to be the oldest church in Donostia-San Sebastian.

It was built in the early sixteenth century, in Basque-Gothic style, under the direction of the master stonemasons Miguel de Santa Celay and Juan de Urrutia. It is rectangular in plan, with three naves. Its rose windows and pointed arches delight passers-by in the Old Quarter, locals and tourists alike. Inside, the austere but magnificent interior exudes a sense of great calm. Among its many treasures are the presbytery altarpiece, designed by sculptor Ambrosio de Bengoechea.
