Back Irun

Irun
Irun, the second most populous city in Gipuzkoa, combines history, nature and heritage in a unique destination on the banks of the Bidasoa River.
The city invites visitors to discover its Roman past through ancient Oiasso, one of the most important Roman settlements on the Cantabrian coast. This archaeological legacy is showcased at the Oiasso Museum.
The ecological and birdlife richness of the Plaiaundi-Txingudi wetlands, one of Europe’s most valuable areas for migratory birds, is another highlight, along with the spectacular mountain landscape of the Aiako Harria Natural Park. The experience is completed by the Irugurutzeta mining furnaces, a testament to the region’s intense mining activity throughout history.
