Mendietxe

The Mendietxe Museum in Azpeitia is a unique space that pays tribute to Basque and international mountaineering.

Driven by renowned mountaineer Álex Txikon, the museum is located in the Las Esclavas former church, which is a 100-year-old building that has been restored to house this initiative. In the three galleries visitors can admire a unique collection of more than 250 historical piolets, legendary expedition equipment, and personal objects that belonged to emblematic figures like Reinhold Messner or George Mallory. In addition, there are taxidermy animals on display and environmental sustainability projects are promoted. Mendietxe is not just a museum, it is a meeting place for lovers of culture and the mountains.
