Balenciaga

Getaria is the home of the first major museum in the world exclusively dedicated to a couturier, reflecting the universal importance of the Getaria-born designer in the field of fashion and haute couture.

In its three extensive spaces and six galleries 2,000 pieces are waiting to be discovered, received on loan or bequest by the Fundación Cristóbal Balenciaga Fundazioa.

2017, THE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS FIRST STORE
Between February and March in 1917, Balenciaga opened his first shop on Calle Bergara in San Sebastian, although six years later he set up his iconic store at Avenida número 2, where he remained for over five decades. And in 1937 he opened the doors of his establishment in Paris. To celebrate both anniversaries, the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum is presenting the exhibition entitled “Collecting elegance, Rachel L. Mellon´s legacy”
