Higher elevation meadows are a predominant feature of Aralar's characteristic landscape. The park features wide open spaces blanketed in white in winter and in bright green grass in summer. The geological plateau contains a number of megalithic monuments and is used extensively by shepherds. It's not uncommon to see horses, sheep and cows peacefully grazing while hikers pass by. Mt. Txindoki, at 1,346 metres, is the highest mountain in the region and its most iconic landmark. Aralar can be accessed from the towns of Amezketa, Ataún (where the Lizarrusti Interpretation Centre is located) and Abaltzisketa (Larraitz neighborhood).
