BASQUE PELOTA:
TRADITION AND SPECTACLE

As well as being a very popular sport in Gipuzkoa, Basque Pelota is an essential part of Basque culture and heritage.

It is played in a Fronton (pelota court) and includes variants such as hand, cesta punta (Jai Alai, played with wicker racket) and remonte (played with a glove). The Galarreta Fronton (in Hernani) is an outstanding venue for remonte and is known for its vibrant atmosphere. You can enjoy a match there or book an experience and go down to the court to feel like a real “pelotari” (pelota player).
